A Night of Cheer, Competition, and School Spirit
The Atlantic City High School gymnasium came alive on February 8, 2025, as students, parents, and supporters gathered for Cheer: The Ultimate Showdown 2025. Hosted by the Atlantic City Public Schools, the annual event showcased the incredible talent, dedication, and teamwork of local cheerleading squads. The evening was filled with high-flying stunts, synchronized routines, and a contagious energy that spread throughout the crowd.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School Complex Takes the Crown
For the second consecutive year, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School Complex cheerleaders claimed the championship title with a flawless performance that left spectators in awe. Their routine blended precision, acrobatics, and boundless enthusiasm, proving their hard work and commitment had paid off. The team also secured a joint first-place victory in the highly anticipated Walk Out competition alongside New York Avenue School, while Pennsylvania Avenue School earned second place in the category.

Beyond the Competition: Growth, Teamwork, and Community
More than just a contest, The Ultimate Showdown 2025 was a testament to the power of perseverance, teamwork, and school pride. Head Coach Bria Days emphasized the significance of the Walk Out routine, designed as a tribute to the Divine Nine, historic Black Greek-letter organizations. Assistant Coach Crystal Johnson reflected on how the experience strengthened the team’s bonds, helping veteran cheerleaders integrate and mentor new members.

For many participants, the journey was as important as the victory. Cheerleaders shared personal growth stories, from overcoming fear to finding confidence and camaraderie. “At first, I was scared to try out,” shared Ashlee Varela, “but my teacher encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. Over time, I found my place with my teammates.”

New York Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue Schools Bring Their Best
New York Avenue School’s spirited Walk Out chant captivated the audience before they even stepped onto the floor, proving that energy and passion are just as crucial as technical skill. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Avenue School delivered a dynamic performance, securing a well-earned second-place finish. Principal Tom Biggins praised their effort, stating, “Their coordination, energy, and confidence were nothing short of amazing. I am beyond proud of them.”

An Unforgettable Night of Cheer and Community
As the event wrapped up, cheerleading coordinator Sherri Hicks reflected on the bigger picture: “Cheerleading is about more than just stunts and routines—it’s about teamwork, leadership, and building a community.” The Ultimate Showdown 2025 exemplified these values, uniting students, teachers, and families in a shared celebration of dedication and excellence. With another thrilling showdown in the books, the cheerleaders of Atlantic City Public Schools are already looking ahead, ready to continue their legacy of passion and perseverance.
