Philadelphia 76ers Honor Atlantic City Recreation Division for Outstanding Community Work

By:

On February 6, 2025, the Philadelphia 76ers took center court at the Wells Fargo Center before their game to honor the Atlantic City Recreation division for their impactful work in the community. The 76ers expressed their appreciation for the division’s dedication by highlighting the many ways they’ve brought local youth closer to the team, including taking over a dozen local kids to multiple 76ers games over the years. Mike Griffin, the director of Atlantic City Recreation, and other city representatives were present to accept the honor.

In his speech, Griffin emphasized that the division’s goal is to create lifelong memories for youth through unique recreational experiences. “We don’t do what we do to be in the spotlight,” said Griffin, “but we are more than grateful an organization like the 76ers took the time to recognize our hard work and dedication.”

Mayor Marty Small, Sr. also expressed his pride in the accomplishment, noting that moments like these inspire the continued growth of the Atlantic City Recreation division. “It’s all about giving our youth opportunities they may not have otherwise had,” he said.

The ceremony was made even more special with a visit from 20 players of the Atlantic City Viking's high school boys and girls basketball teams, who had the chance to meet Naji Marshall, a player for the Dallas Mavericks and an Atlantic City native. Two employees of the Recreation division were also individually recognized: Sakiyah Quick (Full-Time Staff Member of the Year) and Efrain Morales (Part-Time Staff Member of the Year).

Through initiatives like the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA, in partnership with the 76ers, the Recreation division continues to provide local youth with the resources and opportunities to succeed.
