Major Improvements Announced for Gardner’s Basin and Atlantic City Aquarium

By:

Today, Mayor Small and officials from the City of Atlantic City hosted a press conference at Historic Gardner’s Basin to highlight significant improvements, announce upcoming projects, and provide updates on the Atlantic City Aquarium.

Atlantic City Aquarium Progress
Renovations to the aquarium, both interior and exterior, are nearing completion. While the original plan was to reopen this summer, supply chain and funding challenges have caused a slight delay. The city is confident, however, that when the aquarium reopens, it will exceed expectations and provide an exceptional experience for all visitors.

New Public Bathroom Facility
The city has secured $1.4 million in grant funding to replace the long-closed seawall bathroom adjacent to the aquarium. Demolition of the existing structure will begin in the coming months, and a brand-new public bathroom facility will be constructed in its place. This project is expected to be completed and operational by the summer of 2025.

Recent Enhancements at Gardner’s Basin
In recent months, Gardner’s Basin has undergone significant upgrades, including:

Replacement of piers and pilings
Dredging operations
Installation of new lighting and signage
Improvements to parking areas and sidewalks
Additional projects are on the horizon to further enhance Gardner’s Basin as a premier destination for residents and visitors alike.

These improvements represent a commitment to revitalizing Gardner’s Basin and enhancing the experience for all who visit this historic and scenic location.
