Hope Work Initiative: New Opportunities for Homeless in Atlantic City

By:

The initiative offers a lifeline to ten individuals who were identified by the City’s Homeless Outreach team during their daily homeless sweeps throughout Atlantic City. These individuals have been given the opportunity to work with the City of Atlantic City Department of Public Works in various divisions, providing them with valuable work experience while supporting the City's ongoing efforts to improve public spaces.

Program Highlights:

Work Schedule: Participants work 15 hours per week, broken into five-hour shifts, three days a week.

Compensation: Each individual earns $75 per day, funded through the City’s Opioid Settlement funds, ensuring no cost to Atlantic City taxpayers.

Supervision: All program participants are fully supervised during their work hours to ensure safety, support, and quality of work.

Program Oversight: Anthony Woodard, a City of Atlantic City social worker, oversees the initiative, guiding participants through the program and ensuring they receive the necessary support.

The Hope Work Initiative represents a significant step forward in the City’s efforts to combat homelessness by providing not just temporary employment but also the chance for individuals to gain meaningful experience and reintegrate into the workforce.
