City of Atlantic City's Leadership Reflects on a Remarkable 2024: A Year of Growth, Achievements, and Progress

By:

As 2024 came to a close, Atlantic City’s leadership gathered to celebrate a year of incredible progress and set the stage for an exciting 2025. During his annual Year-End Review news conference, Mayor Marty Small Sr., alongside department directors, shared the city’s many accomplishments and plans for the future.

This year, Atlantic City set ambitious goals—124 in total—that were announced during the Mayor’s State of the City address in February. By year’s end, an impressive 94% of these goals were achieved, a testament to the Small Administration’s commitment to accountability and delivering results for residents and visitors alike.

Major Milestones from 2024

Each department had a moment to shine, highlighting achievements that improved quality of life, boosted economic development, and strengthened city services. Here are some standout accomplishments:

  • Revenue & Finance: The city marked its fifth consecutive tax decrease under Mayor Small’s leadership.
  • Public Works: Installed 750 stormwater grates, improving infrastructure across every ward.
  • Fire Department: Increased staffing to the highest levels since 2018.
  • Police Department: Made history by assigning officers to all Atlantic City schools for the first time.
  • IT Department: Improved the CITISTAT process to address quality-of-life issues more effectively.
  • Public Information Office: Prepared for the January 2025 launch of Great Day Atlantic City, a groundbreaking marketing initiative to reimagine the city’s image.
  • Planning & Development: Advanced redevelopment projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • CDBG Office: Supported affordable housing initiatives, including the First-Time Homebuyer Lottery Program.
  • Municipal Courts: Expanded community outreach to support residents.
  • Solicitor’s Office: Used data-driven strategies to reduce liability, saving taxpayer money.
  • Licensing & Inspection: Streamlined the licensing process to generate more revenue.
  • Human Resources: Enhanced leadership through supervisory training programs.
  • Health & Human Resources: Launched a workforce development program to provide job opportunities for the homeless population.

What’s Next for Atlantic City?

Looking ahead, the city is gearing up for several key projects, including the completion of renovations at the City Hall Courtyard and Pop Lloyd Stadium this spring and a fully revamped Atlantic City Aquarium by Christmas. These projects, along with the upcoming Great Day Atlantic City launch, signal the city’s continued commitment to growth, innovation, and excellence.

A Commitment to Collaboration

Mayor Small emphasized that the city’s success is built on teamwork—within his administration and through public-private partnerships that enhance programs and opportunities for residents. “Our success reflects the dedication of a highly qualified, professional administration, and I’m incredibly proud of everything we accomplished in 2024,” said Mayor Small.

Public-private collaborations were instrumental in many of the city’s achievements this year, creating meaningful opportunities that uplift residents and strengthen the community.

Looking Ahead to 2025

Mayor Small will share the city’s 2025 goals during his State of the City address on January 23, 2025, at the Golden Nugget Atlantic City as part of the MBCA Foundation Kick-Off Forecast 2025 event.

With a year of accomplishments behind us and a clear vision for the future, Atlantic City continues to thrive, creating opportunities and delivering on promises to its residents and visitors. Here’s to an even brighter 2025!
