February was a meaningful month as Senior Services took a deep dive into Art, Culture, and Black History, honoring the rich heritage and contributions of the Black community. The month-long celebration concluded with a special trip back to 1969 through the powerful documentary, Summer of Soul.
Seniors gathered for Movie Day, where they experienced the vibrant energy of the legendary Harlem Cultural Festival, a pivotal moment in Black history. The film showcased unforgettable performances and highlighted the cultural and social impact of the era.
Thanks to the Whitman Branch of the Philadelphia Free Library, seniors had the opportunity to reflect on the significance of the festival and its place in history. The event fostered engaging discussions about the influence of music, art, and activism during that time.
The celebration of Art, Culture, and Black History throughout February provided a meaningful journey of learning and appreciation. As the month came to a close, the memories and lessons from these experiences continued to inspire.
