The City of Atlantic City Multicultural Services hosted its Second Cooking & Nutrition Class at Atlantic City Townehouse, bringing residents together for an engaging and educational session on healthy eating. This week’s class focused on the nutritional benefits of fruits, encouraging participants to explore new varieties and understand how different cultures incorporate them into their diets.

Residents learned about the essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in fruits, highlighting their role in promoting overall health and wellness. The class also provided hands-on learning opportunities, where participants practiced proper knife-handling techniques to safely cut and prepare fruits. One resident even led a demonstration on the correct way to peel a banana, showcasing a simple yet important skill for everyday food preparation.

Beyond the technical skills, the class fostered a sense of community and shared learning. Participants had the chance to connect over their personal experiences with food, exchanging tips and stories about their favorite fruits from different parts of the world. This cultural exchange added depth to the session, reinforcing the importance of a diverse and balanced diet.

To conclude the class, attendees enjoyed a refreshing spread of freshly cut fruits and homemade fruit smoothies. The hands-on experience not only reinforced the lessons learned but also provided a delicious and nutritious reward for their efforts. By actively participating in the preparation process, residents gained confidence in making healthier food choices at home.

It was inspiring to see how the knowledge from the class was already being put into action. Many participants expressed their enthusiasm for incorporating more fruits into their meals and continuing to apply their newly acquired skills. The Cooking & Nutrition Class is proving to be a valuable resource in promoting health-conscious habits, cultural appreciation, and community engagement in Atlantic City.
