The City of Atlantic City proudly unveiled its first-ever Freedom Trail Marker at Kennedy Plaza, honoring the pivotal efforts of the Mississippi Democratic Party and civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer during the 1964 Democratic National Convention at Boardwalk Hall.
This landmark marker, the first placed outside Mississippi, highlights Atlantic City’s deep connection to the civil rights movement and serves as a powerful tribute to the courage and determination of Hamer and the Mississippi Democratic Party in their fight for equal representation.
The unveiling ceremony brought together dignitaries, community leaders, and special guests, including representatives from Mississippi, who traveled to Atlantic City to honor this historic occasion.
